We are pleased to share with you our commitment to our local environment and helping the less fortunate in our global and local community.
OUR ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE
We have now achieved our target of being awarded the AAA Tourism Green Award.
In mid 2009 we installed energy efficient heat pumps, considerably reducing our carbon footprint.
We have now introduced dual flush toilets to most rooms and use where possible environmental cleaning agents and offer organic coffee and sugar in our luxury rooms.
We have strict water and electricity usage targets that we measure and display our actual usage at the front desk for guests to view.
We encourage our guests to contribute to achieving our environmental targets by:
Encouraging the switching off of lights and air-conditioners when the room is not in use.
Keeping shower times to a minimum
Offering free pick-ups and drop-offs when using public transport
ENCOURAGING LOCAL COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES AND BUSINESSES
We have as an objective to use local suppliers to help sustain the local Broken Hill economy.
We have introduced our "Outback Plus" guest privilege card as part of our centenary celebrations. This allows our guests to receive discounts not only for repeat business to our motel but also with selected local Broken Hill retailers and tourist attractions.
OUR OWN LODGE OUTBACK FOUNDATION
In 2007 we launched the Lodge Outback Foundation in association with a philanthropic foundation based in Sydney – CAF Australia. We have so far undertaken the following activities:
Raised $1,000 with the help of our guests to fund a life saving heart operation for a 25 year old rural Cambodian woman Nhanh. The operation was successful and now Nhanh is learning to read and write and has taken on a cooking course which will upon completion, help build up her family income. We have now given a further $50 for her to buy 5 hens and a rooster to develop a chicken rearing business in her village. She now earns an income of over $2.00 per day for her family from cooking and rearing chickens.
Raised $250 for the local Broken Hill children's Gym club from our Open Day.
Raised $150 for the Victorian Bush Fire Appeal in February 2009
Gave $500 to Oxfam to sponsor a family member in the 2009 Trail Walk to help children in need in Africa.
Our objective is to continue to raise funds for needy courses with the help of our guests.
WE VALUE OUR EMPLOYEES
The Lodge Outback Motel offers a work place with flexible working hours, a commitment to OHS and annual performance reviews.
We encourage our staff to undertake training courses alongside their work.
